Janet Treby's work springs from the traditions that are part of the collective cultural consciousness that is common to all of us, that holds the artistic and mythological traditions of our past. With her, these influences surface and mingle with her fascination for the human figure to produce and contemporary, yet traditional synthesis. Her studies of figures in motion show their attempts to escape from earthly confines: released from constraining shackles, they are delivered into an ethereal land in which humans dance to the tune of the wind. In her quieter works, her still lifes and observations of figures lead us into a more intimate world. Thinly drawn figures embrace themselves with shrouds, twisting and turning, caressed into a sensual fusion of forms. EXHIBITIONS: Janet Treby's exhibitions have taken her to the Royal and Curwin Galleries of England, Art Multiples in Dusseldorf, The Studio in America and Tias in Japan, amongst others. |
