  Annora Spence |
Born in 1963, Annora Spence studied printed textiles at Liverpool Polytechnic during the early 1980's and continued her education by completing an M.A. in the same subject at Birmingham Polytechnic under full scholarship.
Since 1987, she has worked as a freelance artist and designer. She has concetrated on her painting career since 1990 and has enjoyed great success with her shows in London, the Midlands and abroad. Her prints, first begun in 1994, are worked on in collaboration with the highly acclaimed Adavanced Graphic studio. So far, each edition has sold out in record time.
In 1991, she was sponsored to work in Malaysia for a theatre company teaching students to design stage sets and scenery. She travels regularly to the far East and India taking photographs and sketching ideas for her next paintings and designs
Spence's manipulation of figurative images and exaggeration of scale suggests the kind of stylistic naivete we often associate with the spirit of narrative folk art. Her visual language combines pale and subtle colour tones with a delightful whimsy to depict the relationships of eccentric characters placed in comical situations.
